One of the first steps you can take in protecting yourself from injury during exercise is to chose the right pair of athletic shoes. Your everyday shoes aren’t designed to provide the proper support or stability to keep your feet cushioned from discomfort no matter the athletic activity. For instance, if you are looking for shoes to play racketball or basketball, you want to find a pair with the right type of sole, one that has proper shock absorption and flexibilty. Conversely field sports such as socker or football require cleats or spikes, as well as a cushioned insert to help. You don’t want any of your shoes to have too much room inside as the shoes moving will increase friction and could lead to blisters.
